HISTORY

In 1956, Carl Koelmel with a single focus of machine work with outstanding quality started his business as a one-man machine shop in a two car garage attached to his home. He only had a nine-inch lathe, a drill press and a few hand tools. Within a short amount of time he had to add additional help and by 1964 he built a facility exclusively for his growing business. The company was called Pocono Machine & Tool Co. and ran for 50 years servicing a wide range of industries.

During the mid 1960s the shop manufactured a Capillary Sealing Machine and a Needle Stuffing Machine for the production of small pox vaccines. Carl also helped design and then built a machine for needle counting to help control a Cholera outbreak in Pakistan. Because of the companies’ strength in manufacturing of stainless steel parts, the business branched into the pharmaceutical industry. Carl spent many nights at his kitchen table with engineers mulling over designs for a then new design of a V-Blender for the Patterson-Kelley Company. What followed was a relationship that would last the life of his company and beyond.

By the mid 1970s the operation expanded further into the chemical, process and cryogenic industries and by the addition of his daughter Debbie Garrett who had graduated from college. Her initial experience with the daily operations had been gained during her teenage years. Summer jobs were spent working at the shop either in the office, in accounting, as a purchaser of raw material or in assembly of intensifier bars. She along with another employee, Clarence Cramer would eventually run the company until 2006. Clarence started as an apprentice machinist at Pocono Machine in 1977. Over the next 29 years he learned every aspect of the daily operations from machining, quoting, buying and eventually management.

At age 82 Carl decided to close the doors of Pocono Machine & Tool Co. Debbie had dedicated 27 years to the company and it seemed natural to continue in the field she knew best. Kysaraus Enterprises LLC opened its doors in July of 2006. The same employees that had worked at Pocono Machine followed along with the entire customer base. Kysaraus Enterprises is woman owned and operated in partnership with Clarence Cramer.
